As promised, we are bringing you the outfits worn by another of the MODA supermodels during the Miss SL Tropics pageant that took place last weekend. Fann Hyun is an experienced SL model who openly admits that she comes to in-world “to escape from work stress and to realize my childhood dreams of working as a model”. In RL, she is a high-powered banker. Fann has a stunning avi and she loves SL because she “can model, learn, shop, and meet people from all over the globe”. She sounds like my kind of girl.
Although Fann was a late entrant into the competition, that did not stop her from putting together some of the most elegant and beautifully accessorized outfits of the pageant. Look at the outfit she chose for the swimwear category, it’s an asymmetrically cut swimsuit called Sea Leopard Split in Green from DellyciousWear. Fann accessorized this sexy swimsuit with Silvergold Trefoil leather Choker and Earri
ngs by the same designer.
When it came to casualwear, Fann went for the very pretty Summer Garden Dress with matching shoes from ZVZ Ultra Violet Fashions. This dress is overflowing with spring flowers and features a beautifully sheer flouncy prim overskirt and a dramatic V-shaped bodice. Fann accessorized this sweet flower outfit with Chunky Silver Bangles from Second Mirage, and Amber Drop Chain dangle earrings and Amber Very Long Triple Drop chain from Shiny Things.
It was in the formal category that Fann’s skill for accessorizing really shone through. Starting with the bejewelled Mystic - Skylark with Winter Amethyst Gems gown by Sherona Degroot of *DG* Innovations (see below), Fann added two simple items to complete the outfit; the Queen Heidi Armband by the very talented Alienbear Gupta of Alienbear Designs and earrings from the Trilogy set by JoJo Designs Jewelery. These accessories completed the stunning sky blue evening gown with its lace trim and ethereally flowing silk flyaways – to produce a truly a fabulous modern look.
I really admire those who know what to add to complete an outfit. If you are one of those people let us know and what the trick is in your opinion. Our Fann definitely knows how to make and complete an outfit….wouldn't you agree?

Winning Isn't Everything
OK….maybe that’s not always true...but I caught your attention. So, I attended the 2007 Miss SL Tropics pageant on Sunday, to support my fellow MODA models selected to take part in the competition. The pageant setting was spectacular…with spectators lying on colorful beach towels, sunbathing in front of a huge water sculpture suspended over the sea. The stage was setup so that the competitors walked up from the seabed, literally walking on water and onto a platform containing a very large blue oyster shell. Mermaids and mermen judges, unfortunately, had to contend with crashing around in the waves that lashed against the sculpture. It’s a wonder they got any judging done!
The regal Summer Deadlight - DJ and neko - took home the coveted prize.....Congratulations Summer! I have to say that ALL the ladies in the competition were beautiful and winners in my eyes. You could tell that a lot of work had gone into preparing for the event - not least picking the right outfits and poses. What was especially nice was learning about the competitors RL accomplishments. I'm in awe of all these amazing ladies.
Our very own role model (pun intended!), Makeda Cole took part in this stunning pageant. Throughout the competition, Makeda, was poised and elegant as she modeled outfits specifically created for the pageant.
For the Swimsuit category, Makeda wore this gorgeous Tropicana swimsuit (shown above) from DellyciousWear. With its turquoise print with orange hibiscus flowers, matching Tropicana sarong, and a hibiscus flower for the hair, Tropicana leather and bead anklet, necklace and armlet as accessories, this ensemble was a tropical delight. It was also one of the few outfits that did not to clash with the very blue oyster shell.
Makeda’s choice for the Chic Casual Category was a custom dress by Grace Winnfield Designs. There were gasps of “exquisite”, “beautiful” and “amazing” when Makeda emerged from the sea in this dress, a splash of vibrant tropical colors. Since Grace has a great posting and picture of the Printed Bandeau Dress on her blog, I saw no need to repeat it here. Click on the link and you will find more details about dress there.
For the final category of the competition – the Formal Gown – Makeda chose this breathtaking Sparkle Dust Gown by Sherona de Groot of Innovations (shown below) I am sure you will agree that Makeda is definitely a winner when it comes to style.
Over the next few days, we will try to bring you a few more of the outfits worn by the other MODA models in the competition.

Have Fun.....Sh*t Happens!

MODA’s monthly fashion showcase was held yesterday at Rodeo Drive. If you missed the show, you missed a great event. Rodeo Drive was crowded out and at one point it was standing room only. As a recent graduate of the MODA modeling school, I was fortunate enough to be asked to participate in the showcase. One of the outfits I really enjoyed modeling at the showcase was designed by Ana Boogiewoogie of Sh*t Happens.
The outfit, called Punky Harajuku, is from the designer's Japanese streetwear inspired mini-line and comes filled with tons of accessories, such as fuzzy leggings, belts, bangles and three different styles of the skirt. I also love the hair which Ana chose for the outfit. This sexy, funky hairstyle is called Syd and is by Gaia Goodnight of Darkstar Designs. You can get this outfit and the hair from Sh*t Happens and Darkstar Design main stores at Bishops Point.
Ana is currently running a competition to find the Face of Sh*t Happens. She will be choosing a new "face" every month and the lucky winner gets to keep all the designs they model. Who would not want to own one of Ana’s fun and unique creations? The competition is only open to members of the Sh*t Happens Update group, which by the way is really worth joining, even if you are not interested in the competition. Earlier this week, Ana held a two-hour “Buy one, get one free” group event at the main store recently. During the event you could pick any outfit of equal or lesser value to the one you bought and Ana was there the whole time – “on call” so to speak and to make sure we all got our free items immediately. That in my humble opinion is great customer service.
MODA produces the fashion showcase every month. Details of all our upcoming events are posted here. So if you do not want to be left out of the SL fashion scene, visit us here on a regular basis.

Modesüchtig
Modesüchtig bills itself as: Das erste deutsche Blog über Mode, Haare und Skins in Second Life (The first German blog about fashion hair and skins in Second Life).
Bravo! (or should I say Viel Glück?)
SL is international. The number of non-American residents keeps rising. This blogger, for one, is happy to practice his German, French, Italian etc. even before he reaches for his Babelfish.
How do you say w00t in German?

Plus Sized in SL

The beauty of SL is that not everyone wants to look like Barbie or Brad Pitt etc. There is room for and acceptance of individual style. In her blog, Whole Lotta Rosie, Rosie Barthelmess talks about being a plus sized woman in both RL and SL. Her descriptions about making prim clothing fit are priceless!
Sure, SL is all about fantasy and play, but I think Rosie sums up the real value when she says:
My love for [my avatar] Rosie is helping me learn how to love the RL me.Bless you, Rosie!

Shopping for Men's Clothes
Will Ross has some practical advice for men who don't like shopping in his podcast available at http://travelingavatar.qdnow.com/
He recommends Blaze Fine Fashions (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Glory/71/118/24), Vindi Vindaloo- Fashion for Men (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Plush%20Kappa/48/46/22), and
Macho Murch (http://slurl.com/secondlife/South%20Sunset/36/214/23), the "Man Mall". To his selections, I would add Men In Action (http://slurl.com/secondlife/MIA/159/83/30), which has a wide ranging selection of male clothing. Will actually recommends MIA in another post. One comment he makes is so typical: "I really love my Blaze suit, in fact I wear it about ninety percent of the time I’m in game." OK, I know that your suit doesn't wear out. It doesn't start to stink of sweat, cigarette smoke and alcohol, no matter how much partying you've been doing, Will, but honestly! would it hurt to change it once in a while? Your clothing should reflect your mood, your feelings and the social requirements of where you are. It makes a statement about you, and when you wear the same suit 90% of the time -- I don't care how wonderful the textures -- all it says is "BORING". I love my Blaze suits as well, but not 90% of the time.
Just my $0.02

Summer Seduction Fashion Show
Summer Seduction: the MODA August Fashion Showcase is at 7:00 pm on August 23. Come and watch as the experienced MODA models join the MODA Modeling School graduates, with our guest announcer, SL DJ Mark Attenborough.
Mark Attenborough, the Voice of SL, is known for his smooth jazz and velvety voice. He will be providing the music and commentary for the show.
Confirmed designers include:
- Innocently Evil
- Mystikal Designs
- Nova Designs
- Sh*t Happens
- Crucial Creations
- Adam n Eve
- Mojo Skins
"I'm so excited to have Innocently Evil return to our showcase events," says Jujudoll Dancer, MODA's Founder and Co-CEO. "Nyte's work is always so fun to look at and even more fun to wear. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us this time! No, I really don't know…"
Mystikal Faddoul of Mystikal Hair Designs says she "strives to create hair that is unusual, quirky, and has a sense of humor or drama about it". The designer has a fiercely loyal following, who appreciate her originality. Mystikal is keen to point out that her textures are chosen specifically for their sheen. After receiving requests for bald hair, Mystikal created the Baldie, a follow-up to The Combover, another humorous design. Mystikal is also known for her mastery of the curl, see the loose curls in Flexi Saturday and compare to the tight curls tin the stunning Rollergirl. The designer recently opened a new main store at in Bali Loa.
Nova Lustre started as a jewelry designer, motivated by her real life designs, but became impressed by all the beautiful and unusual clothing in Second Life. "I find that the possibilities are only limited by time and imagination," she says. She specializes in affordable high fashion.
All the models are talking about their outfits from Sh*t Happens. Smart and funky, these designs will turn heads wherever you go. Where else in SL can you go when you skin your knee and need a bandage (and a kiss to make it better)? Ana Boogiewoogie is SL's Mistress of the Unexpected.
A creative professional with extensive Second Life business and design experience, Crucial Armtiage has helped many in their Second Life success. Crucial has been designing and selling her clothing and footwear since September 2004. Crucial Creations Clothing has established a reputation for unique, affordable clothing, in addition to architecture and landscaping with expertise and style. Do the dark side in style!
Adam n Eve is the perfect designer if you really don't like shopping because they do it all for you. They have skins, shapes, hair, casual and formal clothes, lingerie and accessories. They enjoy helping newbies do a complete makeover. Watch for their distinctive look.
Mojo skins (formerly Au Naturel) by Laura Leandros rounds out our list of designers. Mojo is showing how well her skins match with shapes by Innocently Evil and hair by Mystikal Designs.

The contest was aimed at "avatars with an Asian appearance that look good, even gorgeous, to walk the runway and appear in promotional advertisements". Men's Shopping Reviews
Speaking as a man, THANK YOU to Tateru Nino for doing not one, not two, but THREE reviews of men's fashions in Second Life Insider. You can find her blog here. She has some fascinating posts on mixed reality sims.
What I particularly like about her reviews is that she talks about skin and hair, as well as clothes. For a guy who hates shopping and just wants to get out there and equip himself with minimum fuss and bother, this is an excellent guide.
She picked some of my favorites, but I would add Blaze Fine Fashions for men's clothing, particularly formal wear and Calico Creations for hair.

EROS Designs - The Secret of Love
My apologies to EROS Designs. Our recent fashion show ran longer than expected and we didn't realize that the TV coverage would just end like Cinderella at midnight. So the EROS fashions didn't get the exposure they so richly deserve.
From left to right we have me, Makeda Cole, Noelle Canning and Calveen Kline all modeling EROS’ Chardon in white and red. "Chardon" was a fabric made for royalty, including beautiful silk damask, regally embroidered in gold. Chardon is matched for both men and women in colors suitable for the caste colors of roleplaying areas. The women's gowns include two skirt styles and matching shoes. The men's outfits include a matching regal cape.
What I love most about these outfits is the way they fit without looking like a spandex suit. Aside from the fact that men don't tend to buy clothes, the male form is difficult to design for. Second Life tends to make clothing envelop the body like Clingwrap, which looks wonderful on a woman, but comical for a man's suit. EROS' clothing fits like the luxurious cloth that it is. Add to that the delicate gold work and you have an outfit worth getting married in. Keth and Uda Mommsen are truly masters of the craft.
Check out Urbanity, their cool new Jazz Club!

Classic Looks from New Designer

Feeling really sexy in this lingerie number designed by Lissa Maertens of Cattiva and Cattivo. The cute strapless bra has a rose design and the bikini panties hug the body curves showing off assets. This outfit comes with stocking completing setting the scene for seduction. This will stop him in his tracks for sure.
Currently, she is coming into her own in the fashion world and creating what she hopes are beautiful and enjoyable designs.
I am always looking for something casual and fun to wear. I love jeans and appreciate a nice pair as these designed by Lissa Maertens. These jeans hug your body in all the right places and feature a bell legging. The white cami from another collection of Lissa’s called “Peasant Girl”. You can find Lissa’s designs at Cattiva and Cattivo located on WolfWalk.
I put this lovely red dress on and wanted to dance the salsa. I love the way the flexi skirt flows. This is the 3Tier Red Dress designed by Lissa Maertens of Cattiva and Cattivo has 3 layers. Top and 2nd layer in red and the bottom layer in black. All 3 layers are accented with lacy trim. Great party dress or dancing.
Lissa Maertens was born on May 4, 2007. She quickly grew tired of her lavendar blouse, brownish hair and ugly pants and began tinkering with making sexy things for women. Lingerie seemed to be a natural start, since it makes women (and some men) feel sexy... :) She moved on to Jeans and then discovered flexi and the rest, as the worn cliché goes, is history.
As soon as people began asking about her clothes and where they could get them, she began giving away copies. She still does this if you catch her in a good mood! ;) Her first store location was at Annabell's Emporium and while she still has a fondness for that store, she hates the annoying copybot protection bug. So she set up several other small stores and then as things began selling... she found herself at WolfWalk.
Currently, she is coming into her own in the fashion world and creating what she hopes are beautiful and enjoyable clothing styles for SL avatars.
She is always open to adding people to her friends list and believes SL should be fun! And when it starts being "not fun" she'll move on to other fun things.
If you have questions for her, IM Lissa Maertens or drop her a notecard. She does her best to reply to all IM's.
